Bo's first holiday was a trip down to see relatives in Leicestershire. We had an early start so decided to pack everything away the night before including Bo's crate. This really threw her and she spent most of the evening with her toys next to her flat packed crate. In hindsight it would have been better to have left it until the next morning. We had originally planned to use the crate in the car for holidays but we realised that if we took it out we would have nothing for her to use in the car.
We stayed in a dog friendly hotel which we have stayed in before and they are great with dogs. We immediately set up Bo's crate to make her feel at home. Bo was quite stressed at this point and kept licking her nose, self soothing, and was panting a lot more than usual and did not want to drink.
Next we took Bo to the park which was great as it had an enclosed dog run and she was able to burn off excessive energy. Bo remained stressed for the rest of the day and only had a drink in the evening when she downed a full bowl. We decided not to take any food with us as it was easier to buy it at the supermarket as we went along than to carry raw food with us. She did eat ok in the evening and slept well in her crate through the night.
The next day she seemed a little more like herself and was not panting anymore. On her morning walk in the park she played with the other dogs and had her usual cocky walk back so must have been feeling better.
The next day we were due to travel home but we noticed that Bo had two green pustules on her stomach which we gently squeezed between a tissue to remove the pus. They were defiantely not there the day before as Bo spends a lot of time on her back and we would have noticed them. We immediately rang home and made an appointment with the vet that evening.
